This sequence is played for laughs, so there'd certainly be a sense of irony if this is where he was bitten. The first option, then, is when Vanderohe is bringing Shamblers down the elevator, to be used to set off the traps preventing them from getting to the vault. Assuming that all of the zombies were killed by the nuclear strike, so none were alive to bite Vanderohe when he escaped the vault with his life miraculously intact, then the most likely moments are when he and Ludwig Dieter (Matthias Schweighöfer) are down by the vault, as there's not really opportunity (or at least, one that viewers see) before they get there. The end reveal that Vanderohe was bitten at some point in Army of the Dead comes as perhaps its biggest twist, and a big part of that is because it's left so unclear how it happened, and exactly who was responsible. We Don't Know Who Bit Vanderohe (But It Was Probably Zeus) Vanderohe could become the new zombie king, but there are some big questions to be answered about his fate. Army of the Dead ends before Vanderohe turns into a zombie, but the stage os very clearly set for him to join - and perhaps lead - the titular army in a sequel. After improbably surviving the nuclear blast thanks to being in the vault, he and his newfound riches head for Mexico City, only for him to discover on the flight that he's been bitten. Kate's future seems relatively simple, as she's going to use the money her dad gives her to help those in need and maybe open a food truck.

Come the end of the movie, only two members of the team led by Scott Ward ( Dave Bautista) have survived: his daughter, Kate (Ella Purnell), and his old friend, Vanderohe (Omari Hardwick). Structured around a relatively simple heist plan, with the added twist being a Las Vegas overrun by different kinds of zombies - Alphas, who are smarter and faster, and Shamblers, who are more traditional - Army of the Dead delivers on its promise: there's lots of thrilling zombie action, an exciting heist, and plenty of characters get killed off. Returning to the zombie genre for the first time since his debut feature, 2004's Dawn of the Dead remake, Army of the Dead (which has no connection to his first movie) serves as one of Snyder's best and most purely entertaining films to-date.
